Activity - Iris Exchange. Members brought a named potted iris or labled rhizome for themselves and those with them. An A.I.S. Annual membership was given to one of our members. In the special drawing, Gary Whitis, Dolores Avram, and Jim Landers each won a lovely iris print, suitable for framing. Click on the thumbnail above to see a larger image.

Amarillo Botanical Gardens
A highlight of the AIS Region 17 Meeting in Amarillo was a tour of the Amarillo Botanical Gardens.  Pictures of the Gardens can be viewed here.

New Iris Beds planted at Temple VA facility
On Thursday, March 6, 2014, Belton Iris Society members visited the courtyard of a new nursing home complex at the Temple VA.  Jesse Roberts and Susan Decker pointed out the grass areas which the Belton Iris Society will turn into colorful iris beds for the enjoyment of VA residents.

On Saturday, May 10, 2014, eight BIS members met in the courtyard of the CLC Building at the Central Texas VA Health Care Complex in Temple, TX, and planted 48 different iris cultivars in three new iris beds.

2016 AIS Region 17 Convention
The Waco Iris Society will sponsor Deep in the Heart of Texas,  the 2016 AIS Region 17 Convention.

     named potted iris or rhizome (description/picture is helpful) for our gift exchange
     (friends & family are encouraged to play).  Member door prize, too.

New meeting location:
The Belton Iris Society meets regularly at 6 P.M. on the second Monday of the month at Saint Paul's United Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall, 2407 West Avenue P, TEMPLE, TX.

The Belton Iris Society held its annual rhizome sale in conjunction with  the Master Gardeners of Bell County.
          When:  7 a.m. - 1 p.m. , Saturday, September 19, 2015

Region 17 gains a new affiliate society
RVP Dawn Boyer has informed us about the recent formation of the East Texas Iris Society with Connie Ford serving as president. This brings the number of affiliates in Texas to 15, moving Region 17 from 4th to 2nd in total membership to AIS. We heartily welcome the East Texas Iris Society.


The Iris show was held April 4 at the Master Gardeners’ Greenhouse next to the Bell County Cooperative Extension Office, 1605 North Main Street. Iris entries were accepted between 9 & 10:30 and photography entries between 9 & 10.

The Show theme was Photogenic Irises since this was our first year to add a photography contest. The Artistic Design classes were: 1) Picture This Iris and 2) Easter Irises. The Photography classes were: 1) A Single Bloom and 2) A Multitude of Irises.

GUEST SPEAKER at March 9, 2015  meeting
Bob Renker from the Central Texas Photography Club presented "What the Judges Look For" to help BIS members prepare for the photography contest at the 2015 Iris Show on April 4. Mr. Renker's "Criteria for Judging Photographs" can be found here.

2015 Iris Garden Tours hosted by the Iris Society of Dallas
Members of The Iris Society of Dallas are hosting two days of garden tours by bus April 21-22.  The cost is $65. Gardens to be visited include Tom Burseen's Garden, the Carver's Garden, the Nichols' Northhaven Garden, Dell Perry's Garden, and others. Details about the tours can be found here.

The Master Gardeners Vendor Conference Registration Form.

This form is optional and is in addition to the vendor fee that the Belton Iris Society has already paid. It is for vendors who also would like to attend the conference. The additional cost is $100 and BIS members will have to pay for this out of their own pocket. Submitted Forms must be postmarked by March 10, 2015. The form can be downloaded here.
